Spongebob Square Pants Party Cake!

spongebob cakes

After making my youngest son a Tigger cake for his second birthday, my middle son wanted a special cake for his fourth. I asked him what he wanted, and the simple answer was "SPONGEBOB!!"

So again, I baked a simple buttercake recipe - easily found online - in a large square tin. I printed out a picture of Spongebob and enlarged the picture. I then used it for a cutting template and for the final design pictures.

I really didn't think this one was going to come together, as I had difficulty with the brown and the green between his sponge bits. So I actually frosted him once, then wiped all the frosting off, then frosted him again!! I was up until nearly 3am finishing it off for a party the next morning!!

The black frosting was easier the second time around, as I now knew that I needed a large amount of colorant, and used a buttercream vanilla icing, made from scratch. I used a star piping bag, which made it a lengthy process, but I feel the outcome was good.

At the end of the day, there where gasps when I showed our friends and family, and a very happy 4-year-old boy!

Spongebob Cakes

spongebob cakes

I have a seven-year-old boy who has always loved watching cartoons, but especially Spongebob Squarepants. He specifically requested a Spongebob themed birthday cake. I collected some pictures and ingredients and tried my best. I used a yellow cake recipe and made the cake in a square pan, which I used to make his body. Yellow Cake: 1 cup butter, room temperature 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 3 cups sifted self-rising flour 1 cup milk 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Process: 1)Grease and flour 3 cake pans. 2)Cream butter until fluffy. 3)Add sugar and continue to cream well for 6 to 8 minutes. 4)Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. 5)Add flour and milk alternately to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour. 6)Add vanilla and continue to beat. 7)Level batter 8)Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until done in 350 degree oven.

I covered the cake in yellow fondant and used various colors of fondant to create the face. The arms and legs are pieces of rolled fondant.
