The original ideas for pinatas may have originated in China. Marco Polo discovered the Chinese cows and oxen that were covered with colored papers and adorned with harnesses. They may have come through the Mayans or Aztecs of Mexico. Regardless of their origin, pinatas have become a staple of birthday parties. Kids love to gather around the brightly colored animal, character, design, etc. and swing blindly at it with a bat.
