OVER THE HILL INVITATION - Cut 8 1/2" x 11" black card stock into two pieces. Write in white gel pen, "You Know You're Old When..." on the front. Glue pictures from magazine ads of walkers, denture cleaner, hair dye, laxatives, Depends, magnifying glass, etc. on front. Put party details noted below on back of card.

The following Over the Hill party ideas are provided for costumes fitting this theme. You can have everyone come in dark clothing, suggesting a time of mourning. If you want the guest of honor to really stand out, have everyone come in white and have the guest of honor wear black. Another idea, is to have everyone dress like a senior citizen whose attire makes everyone say, "Oh, my gosh. Do you see what so-and-so has on?" Examples:

OVER THE HILL PARTY IDEAS FOR PARTY FOOD


DENTURE CREAM CHEESE BALL – Make a cream cheese, cheese ball to serve at the over the hill party. To make it fun, find some toy plastic teeth online or at a party store and serve the cheese ball in the teeth. Create a label that says, “Denture Cream Cheese Ball.” Serve up with crackers and other fun dippers.

LOOSE MARBLES FRUIT – Create a fruit tray including grapes, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and balls of different kinds of melons. Use a melon baller to create the balls of melon. Serve up the fruit with a label that says “Loose Marbles.”

TOMBSTONE FINGER SANDWICHES – Find a tombstone cookie cutter and use it to cut out finger sandwiches to serve at the party. Make party sandwich favorites like chicken salad, tuna salad, ham and cheese or another sandwich favorite. Label them as “Tombstone Sandwiches” to make it fun.

OLD FASHIONED HAMBURGERS – Burgers are an old favorite that all your guests at the over the hill party are sure to enjoy. Serve them up with all the fixings, like cheese, pickles, ketchup, mustard and any other fixings you can think of. To go along with the over the hill party theme, label them as “Old Fashioned Hamburgers.”

BABY FOOD JAR PUDDING – For this fun food, you’ll need plenty of empty baby food jars. Talk to any friends who have a baby and have them save their jars. Remove the labels and make sure they are well washed. Make up pudding in a fun flavor that goes with the rest of your menu, but serve it in the baby food jars instead of bowls. Label it as “Toothless Pudding.”

PEPTO BISMoL MILKSHAKES – Make delicious milkshakes in raspberry or strawberry flavors, making sure they come out nice and pink. Serve up the milkshakes in cups with straws. Have fun by labeling the milkshakes as “Pink Pepto Bismol Shakes.”

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH PUNCH – Whip up any delicious punch recipe you choose, making sure it is something that everyone will enjoy. Serve it in a pretty crystal or glass punch bowl. Beside the bowl of punch, make a large sign that says “Fountain of Youth Punch.”

The following Over the Hill party ideas are provided to help you create a cake befitting such a theme:

TOMBSTONE CAKE #1 - Make a chocolate cake using the Wilton tombstone cake pan. Frost it with gray frosting. Pipe on "Over the Hill" and the birthday name.

TOMBSTONE CAKE #2 - Make a chocolate cake using the Wilton tombstone cake pan. Frost it light gray. Airbrush top with slightly darker gray. Pipe out with star tip dark gray edge along top of cake. Pipe out "R.I.P. Here Lies Your Youth!" on the tombstone.

TOMBSTONE CUPCAKES - Make or buy chocolate cupcakes. Frost with chocolate frosting. Top with crushed Oreo cookies, minus the white frosting center. Push a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie into each cupcake. Pipe "R.I.P." onto cookie.

OVER THE HILL PHOTO MEMORY CAKE - Make or buy a sheet cake and have a bakery put 10-12 photos of the honoree on the cake ranging from birth to the present.

GRIM REAPER CAKE - Make or buy a chocolate cake. Create 7 graves on the cake by piping out 7 "pieces" of green grass. Hollow out 1 grave (reserved for the honoree) and only pipe out grass around the edges. Push a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie at the top of the 6 full graves. Pipe on "R.I.P." on each cookie. On the honoree's grave, put a plastic Grim Reaper at the top of the grave. Then add a Happy Birthday message on the cake.
