Fun & Fabulous 1st Birthday Cake

1st Birthday Cake For Our Sweet Baby Girl
My baby girl just turned 1 and even though I knew she wouldn’t remember it, I wanted to throw a great girl birthday party to celebrate this big milestone. I invited friends that also have babies and toddlers to celebrate this special day with us. Since all the kids are so young, I didn’t want to overdo the party, so I kept my decorations to those in basic colors that babies really appreciate (the baby book says babies love bright, primary colors). I decorated with plenty of balloons and streamers to make everything as colorful as possible.
I wanted the cake to look great without going overboard – after all, my daughter is only one. I went with a simple chocolate cake and chocolate icing, although I’d recommend that other moms think twice about chocolate icing. Let’s just say, most of us spent a lot of time cleaning up the icing while the little ones dug into their cake. To really make the cake stand out, I added sprinkles in all kinds of different colors, making the cake go along with all the primary colors I used to decorate for the girl birthday party. Of course, you could do this with white icing and it would still look incredible with all the colored sprinkles. The cake is two layers, with more frosting in between the layers.
I must say, there were many happy, chocolate covered faces at the party, so I think everyone enjoyed the cake. Of course, I made sure I took plenty of pictures so I can show off my cuties little chocolaty face with family and friends.
