Prior to making this costume, I had made my son Connor a stuffed Dalmation that he carried around with him wherever he went. So when it came time to make him a costume, the stuffed Dalmation was my inspiration and I decided to make him a costume to match.

Now that you have looked through our pictures of dog costume ideas, it is quite likely that you have developed a few ideas on how to successfully create a dog costume for your kid. When looking for dog costume ideas, it is important to consider a couple of different factors before deciding on a particular look. First, does your child want to look like a favorite dog character – such as Astro from “The Jetsons”, Blue from “Blue’s Clues”, Bandit in “Johnny Quest”, or “Krypto the Superdog” – or would they prefer to look like their favorite type of real dog, such as a Dalmatian or a bulldog?
The next factor that should be taken into consideration is the color of the dog that the child will dress up as, and the general temperament of the canine. Once you have some details down, it will be easy for you to put together a costume. Below, you will find a set of simple instructions for a dog costume for kids:
Instructions for a Kid’s Dog Costume
- A Pair of Brown Hooded Pajamas
- Felt Fabric
- Face Paint
The first step is to create white spots using the felt fabric that you have acquired for the project. Simply cut the pieces in various shapes that reflect the spots that would be found on a dog and glue the pieces to the hooded pajamas that you are utilizing for the costume.
It is important to cut two pieces of felt that may be used for the ears. Once you have done this, simply glue the ears to the hood of the hooded pajamas.
Next, you will take the face paint and use it to transform the face of the child into the face of a dog. In order to do this, simply create a black triangle on the nose. Then, draw a line from the center of the nose to the center of the top lip. You may then place dots where the whiskers would be and draw the whiskers on the cheeks. You may also elect to draw a spot around the eye.
