Construction Cakes - Great Ideas!

Caution, Construction Zone Ahead!
My son is really into construction vehicles so for his 3rd birthday we had a "Construction" birthday party. I started with a rectangular 9x13 cake, put it on a cake board, and frosted it with white icing. I piped the edges in green and sprinkled green shiny confetti to look like grass. I purchased a plastic earthmover that my son could use in the sandbox and filled the shovel with broken pieces of Oreos. Last, I purchased candles, which were shaped like construction zone cones. It was super-easy and a hit!

This cool cake made me think of some more ideas you can use if you need to bake a cake for a construction birthday party. One idea you can use for construction cakes is to create a dump truck cake. Start by baking a double layer square cake. Decorate the cake simply in white. Then, find the picture of a dump truck in a coloring book or print one out from online. Then, place wax paper over the dump truck and use icing to outline all the truck details, then color in the truck with icing. Allow it to dry and then move the icing dump truck to the cake. Make sure your dump truck isn’t too large for your cake. It’s an easy way to make a beautiful cake.Dump Truck Cake #2
Another idea for construction cakes is to use a plastic or metal dump truck and actually add the cake to the dump truck. Considering using a recipe for a dirt cake, which is usually placed in a metal bucket. Make the recipe and place the finished cake inside the dump truck, making sure you secure the end so the cake won’t fall out. It will look like dirt is in the back of the truck, which kids will definitely think is very cool. To add a bit of decoration and give color to the dirt, insert a few gummy worms so it will look like they’re poking their bodies out of the dirt.
