In reviewing the camouflage cake pictures above, you likely experienced some creative and colorful thoughts that will influence how your cake will come together. You probably have visions of the common camouflage colors of green, black, brown, and white dancing in your head. While many resemble items such as army insignia, outdoor fall scenes, picture frames, an outdoor woods scene, fish, deer, and hats, it is possible to create a very basic cake that is simply colored to reflect the most common camouflage colors. However, even with the most basic cakes, there will still be a little work involved in order to create a multi-colored masterpiece. To help you get to piping out your creation, here are some easy-peasy instructions to make a camo cake:

Instructions for a Basic Camouflage Cake

Items Needed:
  • Pastry Bags
  • Black Gel Paste
  • Forest Green Gel Paste
  • White or Vanilla Cake Mix
  • Chocolate or Dark Choc Cake Mix
  • Black Gel Icing
  • Forest Green Gel Icing
  • White Icing
  • Chocolate Icing
  • Bowls

Step 1: Divide white batter into four different bowls. This will likely take at least two boxes of cake batter mix. The first bowl will be for white, the second will be white combined with the forest green gel paste, the third will be the chocolate cake mix; the fourth will be chocolate cake mix combined with black gel paste.

Step 2: Once each bowl of cake mix that you have prepared reflects the camo colors, you should put each color into a pastry bag.

Step 3: Once all four colors are in a pastry bag, cut a hole in the bottom of a Ziploc bag and place all four pastry bags inside so that the points are sticking out of the hole.

Step 4: Squeeze the large bag with all of the colors into the cake pan. This will evenly distribute the camo colors of the cake.

Step 5: Bake the cake mix as outlined on the cake batter box.

Step 6: Create the icings next. You should use white using and black gel icing to create black icing. You should create forest green icing with the forest green gel icing and the white icing, then the chocolate icing for the color brown, and white icing. Place them in pastry bags as you did the batter and in a Ziploc bag the same as you did the cake batter.

Step 7: Once the cake is cooked and cooled, ice it using the combinations in the icing bag that you have created. On the sides, simply do the top edge all the way around and allow the icing to drip down to create a unique drizzle effect.

It's relatively easy to make a camouflage cake, but there are quite a few steps involved. As a result of this, the process may prove to be time consuming. Despite the fact that it takes time to make a camo cake, it is well worth it.
