For my six year old son, everything is all about sports. He’s already playing tee-ball and enjoys playing any other sport he can, so I decided to come up with some sports birthday party ideas for his last birthday. I wanted everything to surround the sports theme to make it a party he and his friends would enjoy. For the invitations, I started out with invitations in the shape of baseballs, decorating them with the stitching so they really looked like the real thing. I focused on baseball wording as well, which all his buddies really liked.

The décor for the party was sports themed as well. One of the sports birthday party ideas I had was to put up bases around the room, a fake batting cage, soccer goals and basketball hoops. I added plenty of sports equipment around the party area, reminding my young guests that it was only to be used outside. The last thing I wanted was a stray soccer ball landing in the cake I spent so much time making.

Speaking of the cake, I wanted to make a sports themed cake to go along with the rest of the sports birthday party ideas I used throughout the party. I kept the colors boyish for my son, with green for a background and the use of yellows and browns. I started with a simple double layer round cake. I iced it with the green icing and added a nice border around the bottom. Then I decorated it with baseball themed items, like baseball shirts, baseball gloves, baseballs and more. In the end, the cake ended up looking amazing and make a great centerpiece to add to my food tables. My son let me take his picture with the cake – he actually liked it that much!
