When considering the design for the army cake that you will create, you have many themes and styles that you may choose to use. A camouflage cake is a popular option, as is the option of a battlefield cake.

If you want to get a little creative, you may create a cake that resembles an army tank or one that looks like a battlefield helmet. In addition to this, you may try your hand at creating one that looks like a military helicopter, an army man, the army seal, a uniform shirt, a patch, or a medal.

If you are exceptionally artistic, you may also create a basic green cake that displays a drawing of the person that you are creating the dessert for. By looking through our pictures on this page, you have seen how many of our readers have created army themed birthday cakes. If you are having a little trouble getting started, perhaps the directions outlined below will assist you:

Instructions for a Camouflage Army Birthday Cake

Items Needed:

  • Chocolate Cake Box Mix
  • White Cake Box Mix
  • 4 Bowls
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Pastry Bags for Batter and Icing
  • White Icing
  • Chocolate Icing Bags
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Large Bag
  • Toy Army Men

Step 1: You should create the batter from the chocolate cake mix and the white cake box mix and then divide the batter among four different bowls. The first bowl should contain white batter. The second should contain white batter combined with the green food coloring. Once the food coloring has been added, you should add a touch of the chocolate batter that you have created in order to create a deep brown colored batter. In the third bowl you should combine both the chocolate batter and the white batter in an equal fashion. In the fourth bowl, you should have it filled with all chocolate batter.

Step 2: You should ensure that you mix each of the batter bowls carefully – ensuring that you create the colors that you will need in order to create a camouflage cake.

Step 3: Once the batter is ready, you should prepare the cake pans according to the instructions listed on the cake box mix.

Step 4: Next, you should take the pastry bags and fill them with each color batter that you have created. Based on these instructions, that should be a minimum of four bags.

Step 5: Now, take each pastry bag and put in clumps of cake mix in alternating locations within each cake pan. The goal is to make it look camouflage, so you will want to put some green, then some white, then some brown, then some dark brown – alternating them in that manner – until each cake pan is approximately ¾ full of the cake batter.

Step 6: The next step to creating an army birthday cake is to bake the batter in the cake pans according to the instructions listed on the cake mix box.

Step 7: Now, you will need to prepare the icing. You should have three bowls for this task. One will include white icing, the next will include chocolate icing combined with cocoa powder until it reaches a dark color, and the third will be white icing combined with green food coloring and just a dab of cocoa powder to create a dark green icing.

Step 8: Once the icings are all mixed and display the camouflage colors that you want on the army cake that you are creating, you should then place each color in a pastry bag.

Step 9: Once the icings are in the pastry bags, you should then place all three into a large bag with a tip. This will allow you to squeeze each of the colors onto the cake all at once, which creates a camouflage swirl effect.

Step 10: Once the cake pans are done in the oven, take them out and allow them to cool.

Step 11: When you are ready to ice the cake, you should take the cakes out of the pans and put them in a cake platter. Then, take the large bag with the three pastry bags in them with icing and ice the top of the cake. Then, you may ice the sides of the cake, but be careful to every part of the cake without mixing the colors together. This will likely be time consuming.

Step 12: When the icing is on the cake, you may then top the cake with toy army men to enhance the appearance of the finished product.

Creating an army birthday cake is a task that will take a little research and time. It is an artistic endeavor that is intended to honor the person that serves in the military. In order to create a military masterpiece, you can expect the project to take some time. However, with a touch of creativity, a little patience, and a steady hand, you can create a beautiful army birthday cake that will leave your favorite solider or soldier wantabe very happy!
