If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and start making your own alphabet cake, here are some of the most popular options that you might consider making:

BLOCK STYLE ABC CAKE

If you like the idea of creating a block type ABC cake, this is one of the easiest of all cakes to make. All you need to do is to make three square cakes. Then frost each layer as you begin to stack them together to form the block. Once all of the layers have been stacked, then frost the entire cake. If you're still working on creating a smooth surface when you frost your cakes, you could opt to cover the entire cake with fondant which would instantly give it a smooth, professional look.

Next you'll want to accent your cake a bit by piping out a decorative edge using a pastry bag and one of the tips of your choice. Using colored fondants that coordinate with your party colors, cut out the ABC letters using letter-shaped cookie cutters and adhere them to the sides of your cake using a bit of frosting. Lastly, add a birthday message and you're good to go.

ALPHABET CUPCAKES

Make your favorite cupcakes and frost them to coordinate with your party colors. Then top them off with some colorful sprinkles and place ABC letters cut out of fondant using letter cookie cutters in the center of each cupcake.
