Adult party games to break the ice, live up the party, encourage competition, and create some good old-fashioned fun! Here are some clean adult party games to help you make that special birthday extraordinary.

ADULT BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES - ICEBREAKERS

TRIVIAL PURSUIT ON THE RUN

Place Trivial Pursuit cards throughout your party room with signs inviting your guests to pick them up and read the questions to other party goers, thus beginning conversations with various guests.

CELEBRITY INTERVIEW

Adult birthday party games involving celebrity interviews is always fun. For this game, one guest is sent from the room while the remaining guests determine which celebrity the absent guest will be when he or she returns. When the absent guest returns, all of the other guests will take turns interviewing that person by asking questions appropriate to who that person is supposed to be. The absent guest in turn will try to figure out who he or she is.

Option: To save time, if you want to write down the names of various celebrities on individual index cards prior to the party and place them into a basket, then you can just draw a card out when it's time for an absent guest to become a celebrity. Also, if you have any restrictions on any questions that might be asked, you could write them on the back of each card. For example, if someone were Cher, it would be too telling to ask what it was like to be married to Sonny Bono.

CELEBRITY COUPLE

Adult birthday party games involving celebrity couples is always fun. Before the party, make a list of famous couples. Write the name of one-half of the couple on a 3x5 card, and the other name of the couple on another card. As guests arrive, give them each a card, and tell them to keep their identity a secret. Then they must try to find their other half by asking your guests only "yes" or "no" questions until he or she finds their mate. whoever finds their partner first is the winner.

Adult Birthday Party Games Alternative: Pin the names on everyone's back as they arrive to the party and tell your guests to treat one another like the person whose identity they have been given. This will speed the game up and open your party to crazy conversations and silly physical shenanigans.

To make things a little more challenging, select couples who are no longer a couple. Here are a few examples to help get you started:

  • Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields
  • Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger
  • Barbie and Ken
  • Bert and Ernie
  • Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Baccall
  • Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel
  • Dagwood and Blondie Bumstead
  • Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor
  • Herman and Lilly Muster
  • Elvis and Priscilla Presley
  • Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt
  • John Smith and Pocahontas
  • Superman and Lois Lane
  • Donald and Ivana Trump
  • Ike and Tina Turner

DON'T SAY "NO"

As guests arrive, give them each a lei. The goal is to collect as many leis from the other guests as possible. To do this, you must get the other guests to say the word "no." To do this, the guests will have to ask questions of one another to try to elicit a "no" from their selected target. Whoever ends up with the most leis at the end of the night or a predetermined time, shall be the winner.

ASK ME ABOUT...

Prior to the party create a stack of tags that say, "Ask me about..." and then add a topic on each one. For example, my senior prom, my boss, the worst date I ever had, my first kiss, etc. As guests arrive, allow them to pick out a tag to wear.

ADULT BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES - TO PLAY WHILE EATING DINNER

HIDDEN MESSAGES

Adult birthday party games that involve anything hidden always causes interest. Prior to the party, write out silly messages or statements, but not so much so that they are obvious, on individual index cards. For example, "I love turtle soup", "Have you ever tried armadillo eggs?", or "I am going to go skydiving on Saturday."

If you are having a sit-down dinner, then place a hidden message under each person's plate. If you are having a buffet, then let everyone draw a hidden message from a basket. Tell everyone to keep his or her message a secret and not share it with anyone else.

The object of the game is for each person to ask their question or state their comment in a natural fashion that it "fits" into the general conversation.

Adult Birthday Party Games Options: Make it a race where everyone is trying to say their phrase first without detection. Whoever is the last person to try to interject their phrase is the loser. Or, you can have your guests compete against one another by trying to figure out when another guest has used their hidden message. If a guest successfully slips their message into the conversation without detection, they are a winner.

HOW GOOD IS YOUR MEMORY?

Adult birthday party games that involve your guests' memory abilities are always a fun thing to include. The game starts by one guest saying they brought something to a party. E.g., "I went to a party and I brought a box of candy." The next guest then adds an item to what has been said. E.g, "I went to a party and I brought a box of candy and a bouquet of flowers." The play continues around the table with each person adding an item to the list. When someone can't remember an item, they are out of the game. The last player who can remember all of the items is the winner.

Adult Birthday Party Games Option: You can play this game in alphabetical order. For example, "I went to a party and I brought an apple." The next person would say, "I went to a party and I brought an apple and a boat."

CONVERSATION STARTERS

To inspire conversation while at the dinner table, make placecards for each setting that will help kick off some lively, fun conversation between your guests. Examples:

  • If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?
  • What's the longest you have gone without sleep and why?
  • What's the habit you're most proud of breaking?
  • What's the best costume you've ever worn?
  • If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
  • Who has been the most influential person in your life?
  • What's the longest you have ever waited in a line and why?
  • What was the most terrifying moment in your life?
  • What is the strangest thing you've ever eaten?
  • Would you eat a bowl of live crickets for $50,000?
  • If you could be any age, what would it be and why?
  • If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

    FINISH THE STORY

One person starts by making up the first line of a story. The next person then adds a sentence to the story and this process continues around the table until everyone has laughed themselves silly and has had enough.

    I HAVE NEVER...

Adult birthday party games that require people to think about themselves are always an added interest. You will need to write 25+ statements on individual index cards and place an equal number of cards at each place setting. Also give everyone several blank cards and a pen or pencil. During dinner your guests will take turns reading one of the cards at their setting. The object of the game is to try to come up with as many questions in which no one can say they have done that particular activity. Whoever has the most questions in which people answered, "I have never..." is the winner. Examples of questions:

    • I have never gone to Europe.
    • I have never played an instrument.
    • I have never had a dog compete in a dog show.
    • I have never been a car salesman.
    • I have never been on a college sports team.
    • I have never met a celebrity.
    • I have never ridden on a motorcycle.
    • I have never poured cement.
    • I have never square danced.
    • I have never gone mountain climbing.
    • I have never owned a waterbed.
    • I have never been in an earthquake.
    • I have never been in a hurricane.
    • I have never been in a tornado.
    • I have never been married.

ADULT BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES - JUST FOR FUN!

    THAT'S A LIE

Adult birthday party games that involve a little deception are always fun to play. Before the party or included on your invitation, ask your guests to write out on an index card (which you can provide in the invitation), three statements about themselves. One of the statements should be a lie, however, tell them to not make it stand out as such. The lie should blend in to appear as truth. Instruct them to bring their index card to the party and give it to the host.

At game time, have the host read each card individually and all the guests have to determine collectively which statement is a lie. Afterwards, each guest may share a little more info about the lie and/or true statements to help other guests get to know them.

    NEW NAMES ONLY

Before the party, this adult birthday party games requires you to create name tags for all of your guests that coincide with your party theme. For example a pirate party might have names like Long John Silver, Black Bear, Calico Jack, Flighty Beth Blackfellow, Bonny Bess Read, etc.

If you don't have a theme, then you are free to just come up with some funny names. You might consider using a feature of your guest to create a name, as long as it doesn't hurt someone's feelings. For example, someone with a large nose might be re-named to Sammy the Schnoze.

Throughout the party, everyone must use the new names assigned to everyone when speaking to them or about them to other guests. This game is actually harder than it appears, especially if everyone knows one another. If someone forgets and uses a guest's real name, they will have a red adhesive dot placed on their face. At the end of the evening, whoever has the most red dots is the loser and shall be given a white elephant gift.

Whoever has that card shall select a present and unwrap it or steal someone else's unwrapped present. Play continues until all of the cards have been drawn.
