You don't want to take any chances that your fun and fabulous party goes south--straight to the Land of Boredom because of a lack of activity. Therefore, you'll want to be sure to plan some great games that will keep everyone entertained and engaged. This could surely be the difference between hosting a "nice party" and one that is the talk of the town for weeks to come.
Some of these games might afford your guests the opportunity to discover a few unknown details about one another's lives, even if they've known each other for years. These interactive games have a way of revealing hidden truths and causing people to confess it all.
Here are some clean adult party games that will keep things moving and help you to take that special birthday to the next level as one that is coined as being extraordinary.
ADULT BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES - ICEBREAKERS
Trivial Pursuit On The Run
Place Trivial Pursuit cards throughout your party room with signs inviting your guests to pick them up and read the questions to other party goers, thus beginning conversations with various guests.
Adult birthday party games involving celebrity interviews is always fun. For this game, one guest is sent from the room while the remaining guests determine which celebrity the absent guest will be when he or she returns. When the absent guest returns, all of the other guests will take turns interviewing that person by asking questions appropriate to who that person is supposed to be. The absent guest in turn will try to figure out who he or she is.
Option: To save time, if you want to write down the names of various celebrities on individual index cards prior to the party and place them into a basket, then you can just draw a card out when it's time for an absent guest to become a celebrity. Also, if you have any restrictions on any questions that might be asked, you could write them on the back of each card. For example, if someone were Cher, it would be too telling to ask what it was like to be married to Sonny Bono.
Adult birthday party games involving celebrity couples is always fun. List some celebrity couples before the birthday party. Write one half of the couple’s name on one 3x5 card, and the name of the other half of the couple on another card. Give each guest a card when they arrive, letting guests know that they should keep the name on the card secret. Then guests have to find the other half of the couple by asking guests "yes" or "no" questions. The person to find the other half of their couple first wins.
Adult Birthday Party Games Alternative: Pin a card on each guest’s back as they arrive. Instruct guests to treat everyone as the person they have been identified as on the card. This makes the game go faster, starts conversations and gets everyone laughing.
If you want to make the challenge tougher, choose couples that have broken up. The following are some fun examples you can use.
Don't Say No
- Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields
- Barbie and Ken
- Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger
- Bert and Ernie
- Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel
- Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall
- Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor
- Dagwood and Blondie Bumstead
- Herman and Lilly Muster
- Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt
- Elvis and Priscilla Presley
- Donald and Ivana Trump
- John Smith and Pocahontas
- Superman and Lois Lane
- Ike and Tina Turner
As guests show up, give each one a lei. The game’s goal is to get as many leis as you can. To take someone else’s lei, you have to get them to utter the word, "no." Guests will need to ask others questions to try to get them to say the word. The person who collects the most leis by the end of the party wins.
Ask Me About...
Create a pile of tags before the party that read, "Ask me about..." and then give each one a topic. For example, my worst date ever, my boss, prom dress or date, my very first kiss, etc. Allow guests to choose their tag when they arrive at the party.

ADULT BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES - TO PLAY WHILE EATING DINNER
How Good Is Your Memory?
Adult birthday party games that involve your guests' memory abilities are always a fun thing to include. The game starts by one guest saying they brought something to a party. E.g., "I went to a party and I brought a box of candy." The next guest then adds an item to what has been said. E.g, "I went to a party and I brought a box of candy and a bouquet of flowers." The play continues around the table with each person adding an item to the list. When someone can't remember an item, they are out of the game. The last player who can remember all of the items is the winner.
Adult Birthday Party Games Option:
You can play this game in alphabetical order. For example, "I went to a party and I brought an apple." The next person would say, "I went to a party and I brought an apple and a boat."
Adult birthday party games that involve anything hidden always causes interest. Prior to the party, write out silly messages or statements, but not so much so that they are obvious, on individual index cards. For example, "I love turtle soup", "Have you ever tried armadillo eggs?", or "I am going to go skydiving on Saturday."
If you are having a sit-down dinner, then place a hidden message under each person's plate. If you are having a buffet, then let everyone draw a hidden message from a basket. Tell everyone to keep his or her message a secret and not share it with anyone else.
The object of the game is for each person to ask their question or state their comment in a natural fashion that it "fits" into the general conversation.
Adult Birthday Party Games Options:
Make it a race where everyone is trying to say their phrase first without detection. Whoever is the last person to try to interject their phrase is the loser. Or, you can have your guests compete against one another by trying to figure out when another guest has used their hidden message. If a guest successfully slips their message into the conversation without detection, they are a winner.
To inspire conversation while at the dinner table, make place cards for each setting that will help kick off some lively, fun conversation between your guests. Examples:
If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?
What's the longest you have gone without sleep and why?
What's the habit you're most proud of breaking?
What's the best costume you've ever worn?
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
What's the longest you have ever waited in a line and why?
What was the most terrifying moment in your life?
What is the strangest thing you've ever eaten?
Would you eat a bowl of live crickets for $50,000?
If you could be any age, what would it be and why?
If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
Finish The Story
One person starts by making up the first line of a story. The next person then adds a sentence to the story and this process continues around the table until everyone has laughed themselves silly and has had enough.
I Have Never...
Adult birthday party games that require people to think about themselves are always an added interest. On index cards, write at least 25 statements, handing out the cards or placing them at every place setting at the dining table. Ensure every guest gets a writing device and some blank index cards. As guests enjoy dinner, they take turns reading a card. The goal is to come up with as many questions as possible that no one else has done. The person that ends up having the most questions to which guests answer “I have never” wins the game. Here are some sample questions.
- I have never visited Europe
- I have never placed my dog in a dog show
- I have never played a musical instrument
- I have never been employed as a used car salesman
- I have never been on a high school sports team
- I have never met a huge celebrity
- I have never made anything with cement
- I have never gone riding on a motorcycle or moped
- I have never ballroom danced
- I have never climbed a mountain
- I have never owned a cat
- I have never been through a tornado
- I have never felt an earthquake

ADULT BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES - JUST FOR FUN!
That's A Lie
Adult birthday party games that involve a little deception are always fun to play. Before the party or included on your invitation, ask your guests to write out on an index card (which you can provide in the invitation), three statements about themselves. One of the statements should be a lie, however, tell them to not make it stand out as such. The lie should blend in to appear as truth. Instruct them to bring their index card to the party and give it to the host.
At game time, have the host read each card individually and all the guests have to determine collectively which statement is a lie. Afterwards, each guest may share a little more info about the lie and/or true statements to help other guests get to know them.
We adults all have a little child living inside of us and this game is sure to bring back a few memories. It is played like Hot Potato except a camera with an automatic timer is used. Have all of your guests stand in a circle and pass the "hot Camera" around to one another. Here's the catch. The timer must be set to take a picture and each time a guest is handed the camera they must keep it pointed at themselves, strike a pose and then pass the camera to the person on their right. If the camera goes off that guest must draw the resulting consequence from the punishment jar. Of course you will have to create slips of paper with the various punishments before the party starts.
New Names Only
Before the party, this adult birthday party games requires you to create name tags for all of your guests that coincide with your party theme. For example a pirate party might have names like Long John Silver, Black Bear, Calico Jack, Flighty Beth Blackfellow, Bonny Bess Read, etc.
If you don't have a theme, then you are free to just come up with some funny names. You might consider using a feature of your guest to create a name, as long as it doesn't hurt someone's feelings. For example, someone with a large nose might be re-named to Sammy the Schnoze.
Throughout the party, everyone must use the new names assigned to everyone when speaking to them or about them to other guests. This game is actually harder than it appears, especially if everyone knows one another. If someone forgets and uses a guest's real name, they will have a red adhesive dot placed on their face. At the end of the evening, whoever has the most red dots is the loser and shall be given a white elephant gift.
